Member Artist - Robert Thompson
Robert was born in Salt Lake City and raised in many of the Western states including Wyoming, Colorado, and Idaho before joining the United States Navy in 1993. After serving twenty years; first as a boatswains mate and later as cryptologic technician, he retired from service and settled in Elk Grove California. It was during his time in the navy that Robert became interested in art. After sustaining life threatening injuries while serving in Iraq he was medically evacuated back to the United States and remained bedridden for the next six months. Even after physically recovering to the point that he could walk again, his brain injuries continued to be a nuisance. He was unable to concentrate on any subject for long and his hands would shake uncontrollably. Art therapy provided by Walter Reed hospital in Washington D.C. proved to be effective in treating his tremors and he soon discovered a love for sculpting and painting.
After settling in Elk Grove California he enrolled in art and anthropology classes at Cosumnes River College for two semesters before transferring to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he is still enrolled. While studying at the Academy he has had the pleasure of studying under some of the finest artists in the Bay area, and perhaps the entire country. He is currently still searching for his artistic voice and style but remains committed to representational painting in oils.
