June Featured Artist Exhibit: 6th Annual Art Tour Raffle - NEW 2017 JUNE DATE

We have a NEW JUNE DATE for our 6th Annual Art Tour.  (Previously held in September) Starting June 3rd, visit the Art Center Gallery to enjoy the experience of viewing the diverse sample works of each of the artists who are participating in this year's Art Tour. Each participating artist will donate a quality piece of fine art as a raffle entry!  You can purchase raffle tickets for the opportunity to win one or more of the featured works.  

The artwork donated by the participating artists will be displayed at the gallery through July 1st.  Visitors who enter our Raffle will have the opportunity to win one of the fine donated artworks, to take home at the end of the exhibit.  This exhibit will continue through to our July 1st reception, when raffle winners will be announced at 6:00 pm. (You do not need to be present to win)

Below is an example of some the raffle art from our 2016 Art tour.  A sneak peek of some of the 2017 raffle art will be coming in May.

The Art tour will be held on Saturday, June 10th, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Vannatta Winery.

Join us at the Art Center, on JUNE 3rd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, for the Kick-off Reception of our 6th Annual Art Tour.  Participating artists for the Art Tour will have their raffle entries on display at the reception.  Winners of our raffle will be announced at the following First Saturday Reception on July 1st.  Below, enjoy a review of some of last year's 2016 Raffle Entries!  Stay tuned for a sneak peek of the 2017 Raffle Art in May.

Raffle tickets will be available June 3rd through July 1st at the Arts Center and June 10th at the tour site, Vannatta Winery, selling for $5.00 each.

This kick-off reception provides an opportunity to view the art that the participating artists have created as raffle prizes, and will be the first opportunity to purchase raffle tickets.  You can choose exactly which art pieces you like for the raffle.  The reception is also a great preview of the type of fine art that will be for sale at the 2017 Art Tour.

6th Annual Art Tour NEW 2017 DATE: JUNE 10TH!

The date of our Annual Art Tour has changed: The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center will be hosting its sixth Annual Art Tour on Saturday, JUNE 10th.  Enjoy wine tasting, free admission and extraordinary art at the Vannetta Winery, 8718 Grant Line Road in Elk Grove, CA.

Each participating artist will created a piece of fine art which will be available to be won as a raffle prize.  View the raffle art and purchase raffle tickets ($5.00 each) at the Art Center, 9080 Elk Grove Blvd., June 3rd through July 1st, Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11:00 am to 4:00pm and Sundays 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Raffle tickets will also be available at Vannatta Winery on June 10th, the day of the tour. JOURNEY OF HOPE 2017 SHOW: Real Life Stories of Living with Mental Health Issues Portrayed through Art

The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center is excited to be partnering with the Sacramento County Division of Behavioral Health Services, and The Stop Stigma Speakers Bureau to bring this amazing event to the public.  The purpose of this event is to share real life stories of hope and recovery to give others insight, inspiration, understanding, strength, connection and to raise awareness.  Story writers submit their experiences with mental health challenges and their journey to recovery.  Each story is given to a local artist to portray the writer's story through art.  Finished STORIES and ART PIECES are exhibited together at a free month-long exhibit at the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center, open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The show will run until October 7th through October 21st

FIRST SATURDAY ART RECEPTION: Journey of Hope 2017 - Life Stories of Living with Mental Health Challenges Portrayed Through Art

Join us for our 1st Saturday art reception featuring the artists and writers of our Journey of Hope exhibit!  The show will highlight the collaborative pairing of local artists with writers who are sharing personal stories of struggle, hope and recovery with mental health challenges.  The unique expressive styles of the participating artists will be matched with the writers to create artistic portrayals of these stories.  This show will be an amazing display of insight, inspiration, understanding, strength and connection.  For more information, go to our Journey Of Hope page HERE!  The show will run until October 21st.

Community Artists and EGFAC Member Artists will also be showing and selling a variety of original artwork.

The Featured Artist Exhibit for, May 2017, will display the artwork of local artist, Barbara Nicols.  The show will feature “A Retrospective – The Art of Barbara Nicolas.” With inspiration from her instructor James Estey of Placerville, California, she began to paint from her head and heart. Her heart told her what to paint and she listened to her head to know when a painting was finished. Over the years, she has created a variety of beautiful watercolor paintings of floral, landscape, Panda Bears, etc. Don’t miss this wonderful display and tribute to Barbara’s artwork. The show continues through May 24th, Wednesday - Saturday 11am-4pm and Sunday 10am-2pm.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:  Drawing is a skill that can be learned - you just have to know how to see!  Drawing with the right side of your brain will enable you to see things differently and then interpret them onto the page in a way you might not have thought possible.  Learn to express yourself through drawing in a fun, non-judgmental atmosphere.  We will go through exercises that will build your confidence and allow you to enjoy the process of drawing!  If you always said you couldn't draw a straight line - don't worry - there won't be any straight lines in this class!

Materials:  Students are required to bring one sketch pad NO SMALLER THAN 14 x 16 inches. The teacher will provide the pencils and erasers

TEXTURED ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE WITH JUDY KNOTT

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:  A textured 16"x20" canvas will be provided.  Because it takes the texturing 24 hours to dry, the instructor will have prepared the canvas ready to paint.  She will demonstrate the texturing technique at the beginning of class and have students try it on a sample board.  You will have the fun of adding paint and discovering layers of colors, spraying with water and watching the paint move and mix in exciting ways over the various textures created on the canvas.

Materials:  Students are required to bring water spray bottle, fine spray mist is best, 1" or 2" flat white nylon brush for acrylics, water container to clean brush.

FIRST SATURDAY ART RECEPTION: Monterey Trails High School Student Show

Join us for our 1st Saturday art reception, featuring  the Art Students of Monterey Trails High School..  Annually we honor a different High School in Elk Grove’s district as a way to celebrate National Youth Art Month. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet these talented young students and enjoy some refreshments, live music, and of course, impressive artwork!  The show runs April 2nd through April 26th.  Click HERE for our reception flyer!

Monterey Trail High School was established in 2004. The Visual Arts Department started in its first year with Art 1 and Ceramics 1 offered as elective courses and has grown to include beginning and advanced level courses in art, ceramics, graphic design, and photography and also offers a mixed media class as well.

During the reception, Arts Center members and Community Artists will be showing and selling a new variety of art media.  Also featured that evening will be our ongoing TILE GLAZING FUNDRAISER.   Come out to SUPPORT THE ARTS for $15 per tile.  Donate your hand glazed tile for installation on front entry walls, three walls completed and two more to go.

APRIL FEATURED ART EXHIBIT: Monterey Trails High School Student Show

Our new exhibit features the Student Art from Monterey Trails High School, in the Elk Grove Unified School District.  Annually we honor a different High School in Elk Grove’s district as a way to celebrate National Youth Art Month.  It is our goal, here at the Art center to recognize, and promote, the talents of this very special, and unique group of teens.

Monterey Trail High School was established in 2004. The Visual Arts Department started in its first year with Art 1 and Ceramics 1 offered as elective courses and has grown to include beginning and advanced level courses in art, ceramics, graphic design, and photography and also offers a mixed media class as well.

Beginning level courses and curriculum focus on developing technique in a variety of media and connections are made with artists and art of the past and present. All classes apply common vocabulary such as the elements of art and principles of design as well as examining art work based on the four steps of art criticism.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:  Drawing is a skill that can be learned - you just have to know how to see!  Drawing with the right side of your brain will enable you to see things differently and then interpret them onto the page in a way you might not have thought possible.  Learn to express yourself through drawing in a fun, non-judgmental atmosphere.  We will go through exercises that will build your confidence and allow you to enjoy the process of drawing!  If you always said you couldn't draw a straight line - don't worry - there won't be any straight lines in this class!

Materials:  Students are required to bring one sketch pad NO SMALLER THAN 14 x 16 inches. The teacher will provide the pencils and erasers

1st Saturday Art Reception: 5th Annual Open Fine Art Competition - NEW MARCH DATE!

The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center will be holding their 1st Saturday Art Reception, March 4th from 4-7pm featuring winners of their “4th Annual Open Fine Art Competition.” The awards presentation for each category, Water Media, Oil - Acrylic - Mixed Media, Pastel - Drawing, Photography, and 3-D will be held that evening. The show continues through March 22, Wednesday - Saturday 11am-4pm.  The Arts Center/Gift Gallery is located in Old Town Elk Grove, 9080 Elk Grove Boulevard.   

Community Artists will be showing and selling a variety of original artwork.   Also featured that evening will be our ongoing TILE GLAZING FUNDRAISER.   Glaze a tile for $15 and donate for installation on front entry walls.  Only one small section of wall still needs to be completed!

5th Annual Open Fine Arts Competition: NEW MARCH DATE!

Join us for our 5th Annual Open Fine Arts Competition.  Last year, we had 172 outstanding entries from 92 accomplished artists!  Media will be accepted in Oils/Acrylics/Mixed Media, Water Media, Pastel/Drawing, Photography, and 3D! After a formal judging, prizes will be presented at the awards ceremony, which will occur at the 1st Saturday reception, on June 4th.  At the the reception you can meet and greet all the participating artists.  The exhibit will continue through March 22nd.
