Member Artist - Darrci Robertson
Darrci has lived in Elk Grove for more than 20 years and enjoys the tight community that is here. When she was younger her mother would send away for creative kits that Darrci would spend hours putting together. The smell of crayons to this day puts a smile on her face, she says! Then, when Darrci was ten her mother enrolled her in an oil painting class, and she knew that art was her calling. Darrci studied art at California College of Arts and Crafts upon her high school graduation. She was introduced to ceramic arts at Cosumnes River College when she studied with Professor Yoshio Taylor.
In Darrci’s own words, “I have enjoyed making friends with fellow artists! Being around creative people is what makes me happy. So, when the opportunity to start an art center in Elk Grove came along, I was so excited to be a part of it's launch 5 years ago!
“I consider myself a sculptor/ceramic artist. My recent work is more autobiographical in nature, where I use characteristics, symbols, and emotions of the woman/ wife/ mother expressing her role in the world. I feel my experience as a mother of two boys and my 26 years of marriage provides me with lots of material which I draw from to create an expressive piece of art. I often hear from people "tell me your story of why you created this piece.” Although I enjoy telling them my story, for me " their" thoughts or interpretations are most important to me!”
