C Volker received a BFA in studio painting and drawing from the U. of Iowa and was trained in traditional methods of drawing from the model and still life. She studied painting from artist/teachers living in New York and trained in the New York School of Abstract Expressionism.
C. Volker moved to Portland, OR for 7 years, showing at the Northwest Artist Workshop and exhibiting in shows in Seattle and Portland. She now resides in N. CA and shows her work regionally.
These are contemporary abstract paintings. The paint is poured and painted by brush and palette knife onto wrapped canvas or wood panels, using archival materials only. Experiences from nature, along with inner emotional states, all show up in the paintings. The paintings are fluid and gestural, utilizing experiemental methods of application while holding tru to fine art principles.
“I try to capture my own visual language. Like music, I hope the viewer can respond to the spontaneous play of color, movement, line and form. Maybe its more like jazz; I try to live in that improvisational world of my true self, which is both introspective and action-oriented. Each painting has its own process and I have to trust and surrender to the flow, rhythm, tempo, and beat that it requires. “
