Bonnie Santos Cooper
Although my love for two- and three-dimensional art hugged my developmental years, I have been formally studying art and painting since 2010.
I traveled a wandering path through high school and college, loving, exploring, and taking art classes as a minor. As a teacher, I brought the arts into students' lessons in history and literature, and used practical, hands-on art to facilitate learning for students with special needs. As an administrator, I supported the arts in all the schools, budgeting funds for art and music. After 35 years in public education, I followed my mother's love and talent for painting that she had developed through the years and embarked on my own journey to uncover any artistic talents I may have inherited. I soon knew it was my time to pursue my love for the visual arts.
In retirement, I began my study of art at Modesto Junior College taking classes from the MJC Community Education Program, participating in activities and classes at the Mistlin Gallery, taking private painting lessons, and hosting "Let’s Paint Together" days in my home with other artists. After moving to Sacramento two years ago, I began taking classes through Elk Grove Adult and Community Education (EGACE) and the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center (EGFAC).
I began searching for a gallery that was professional, community-minded, and filled with artists who care about one another, support the arts in their community and have outreach programs for children. I found my home at the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center about a year ago, first as a Friend, then a Community Artist on Display (CAD), and now as member of the EFGAC.
I enjoy working in watercolors and oils, and especially in acrylics and mixed media. Stop bythe EGFAC and visit us, start your artistic journey by taking a class, or purchase an original piece of art for you or a friend. I look forward to meeting you!
