SMALL TREASURES PREVIEW: Fault Lines by Cheryl Griess

The inspiration for this series came from a painting I saw representing the earth’s fault lines.  My goal was to depict the earth’s upheaval during an earthquake with color, texture and design in an abstract format for these five pieces of art.

The 5x7 boards were routered and painted black.

Five rusted metal pieces were selected from my stash.

The overall background was painted representing the earth's surface.  Then three designs were repeated and cut for the five boards.

The background pieces of three were then resized to fit the boards in different configurations to represent the surface shifting.  They were then glued together, rusted metal attached, and blue textured paint applied.  This was to represent the upheaval of the earth with water and structures that can be impacted during an earthquake.

I was happy with the overall color, texture and design for these “Fault Lines” Small Treasure pieces and hope the viewer enjoys them too.
